What makes FDFromTheFuture the voice of streetwear?

It’s impossible not to know who FDFromTheFuture is.

With his unmatched work-rate, the man from the uno is active at every event worth noting.

Whether it’s a Badfriend release or CRTZ x Supreme collab launch, he’s there amongst thousands of fans covering it.

But, like in a recent Instagram caption, he’s always asking about others, who’s asking about him?

Why does he have such a workrate? Why does he document the culture… what does culture even mean to him?

And that’s where this Archives Magazine interview started.

“The importance of something a community has created, that’s culture.”

And it’s a verified view to have, he’s literally watched friends he knows create it through their own brands.

He too, has created something important. Through streetwear, his documentation has become essential.

“The thing about streetwear that makes me strive is that we are now reaching new heights,” FD told Archives Magazine.

From the high end to the high street, everybody wants what streetwear has because it’s cool. We are on top right now. It feels natural to me.”

And through all the ‘underrated brands’ he names, “I gotta shoutout A1 Denim, Cetra, Marino Morwood, you wasn’t der,”, there isn’t one that hasn’t got others wanting what they have.

“There are so many, I can’t name one [underrated brand]. They all know it’s love.”

And, a lot of brands want what FD has. This aura and energy that takes his work to a different level.

He’s connecting an impressive roster of labels to his audience, and to his culture.

“I want others to describe my work like how somebody describes David Attenborough or a goated album.”

“It’s historic and timeless, without me a lot of people wouldn’t know what is happening at these events. It’s a document it’s history.”

Now a key part of the streetwear scene, it’s hard to imagine it without FD.

But, at 17-years-old, he was suicidal, feeling the pressure of doing something with his life. His mindset is shaped through pain.

“I was 17 and suicidal because I thought I hadn’t achieved anything,”

“This is the end goal, to do something, build an empire, happiness.”

He has been through a lot. His dad was deported when he first came to the country, his mum hustled with no money. His whole circle was penniless, doing “a whole bunch of stuff for money” and at 20-years-old, he lost a close friend.

These experiences have now pushed him to his peak. From the bottom to the top, doing it his way.

His mentality now sees him realistically set ambitions of interviewing Drake, Nigo and Pharrell or collab with Nike.

It sees him in a place where he understands what makes a good streetwear event, and every single one he’s at, he’s learning from. Just check his bio, something is pending.

And if he was asked what tip he’d give to his 17-year-old self, it’d be:

“Take more risks. I take loads now but I would say take way more.”
